Master degrees in Italy and France for Pakistani students

Most English-taught programmes in Italy sit at Master level, so the choice here is wider than at Bachelor. The entry route is different too: a Bachelor degree attested by HEC rather than IBCC, usually no entrance test, and a recognition document for your degree before the visa stage.

What a Master application needs from Pakistan

The master route is not the bachelor route with different marks. These are the steps that are specific to it.

1
A relevant Bachelor degree
Sixteen years of education. Universities look at whether the subject matches the Master, not only at the marks. A change of field is possible but needs explaining in the motivation letter, and some courses will refuse it outright.
2
HEC attestation, then MOFA
Degrees go to HEC, not IBCC. This is the step that takes longest and the one students start too late. Begin it before you have offers rather than after.
3
CIMEA or a Declaration of Value
Italian universities need your Pakistani degree recognised. A CIMEA statement of comparability and a Declaration of Value from the embassy do similar jobs, but they come from different bodies on different timelines. Ask which one your programme wants before paying for either.
4
English proficiency, or a Medium of Instruction letter
MOI letters are accepted more widely at Master level than at Bachelor level, particularly in Italy. France is stricter, because the Campus France file is assessed on documents rather than in conversation.
5
Universitaly pre-enrolment, or Campus France
Italy runs through Universitaly. France runs through the Etudes en France portal with an academic interview at Alliance Francaise. Both are compulsory and both sit before the visa application.
Worth knowing before you shortlist
  • A Master is normally two years in Italy and one to two years in France. A one year French Master is cheaper in total than a two year Italian one even when the annual cost is higher.
  • CGPA thresholds differ by university and sometimes by course. Several Italian universities publish a specific minimum for Pakistani applicants, so check the university page rather than assuming a general figure.
  • Applying to eight ambitious universities is the most common way to lose a year. Two ambitious, four realistic, two safe is a better shape.

Universities offering Master degrees

11 of the universities we work with take master applications from Pakistan, 5 in Italy and 6 in France. Entry grades, English requirements and application windows are on the comparison table, where you can sort and filter them. Reviewed August 2026.

Looking for one specific course rather than a university? Universitaly is the Italian ministry’s own portal and lets you filter every course in the country by teaching language and level. It is more current than any list a consultancy keeps by hand, including ours.

Master questions students ask

It varies by university and sometimes by course, and several Italian universities publish a specific threshold for Pakistani applicants. As a general picture, most public universities are reachable from around 60 percent or a CGPA near 2.5, while the technical universities and the more selective institutions ask for more. Check the individual university page rather than relying on a single figure, because these are set locally and they move.
