Italy vs France for Pakistani students: compare the route before you apply

There is no universal answer. The right country depends on your qualification, subject, budget and how much paperwork you can manage before the intake.

Italy and France can both work for a Pakistani student, but they are not the same application. The useful comparison is not “which country is better?” It is “which route fits my profile, budget and subject?”

Application route

AreaItalyFrance

International processUniversitaly pre-enrolment where requiredEtudes en France and Campus France process where applicable
Scholarship landscapeRegional right-to-study, university and government routesGovernment, university and other scholarship routes
DocumentsIBCC/HEC/MOFA depending on qualification and programmeAcademic documents plus Campus France and visa requirements
VisaItalian study visa processFrench long-stay student visa process for degree study over 3 months

Budget

Compare the complete first-year budget. Tuition is only one line. Housing, transport, food, deposits, insurance, visa costs and the timing of scholarship payments can matter more. A cheaper tuition offer in an expensive city is not automatically the cheaper option.

Scholarships

Italy is known for regional right-to-study schemes whose rules vary by region. France has university and government funding, including Eiffel for eligible Master and doctoral candidates. The application mechanics are different, so build the scholarship calendar alongside the admission calendar.

Language

Both countries have English-taught programmes, particularly at Master level. Local language still matters for everyday life, housing, part-time work and integration, so “English taught” should not be interpreted as “you never need the local language.”

Which one fits your profile?

  • Bachelor student: compare the number of English-taught programmes in your exact subject.
  • Master student: compare programme content, tuition treatment, scholarship eligibility and city cost.
  • Tight budget: compare regional or university funding before choosing the country.
  • Career-focused student: compare internships, programme links with employers and the local job market.
  • Student who needs a simple calendar: map the exact application steps before paying any fee.

Common questions

It depends on the university, city, tuition treatment and scholarship. Compare the full first-year budget.
